AEM Universal EMS (30-1900U) pinout and specs

AEM Universal EMS (30-1900U) is a 95-pin wire-in AEM ECU on 1 connector: C (95 pins).

It has 10 injector outputs and 5 ignition outputs. The injector drivers are peak-and-hold, so low-impedance injectors run without a resistor pack. The ignition outputs drive dumb coils directly and will not trigger smart coils.

There are 2 dedicated trigger inputs, each happy with a VR or a Hall sensor. Two knock inputs cover both banks of a V engine. It has 2 onboard wideband controllers, so a sensor wires straight in.

It does not drive an electronic throttle, so plan on a cable throttle. There is no CAN bus, which rules out CAN dashes and CAN expansion. Four outputs can switch 12V as well as ground.

Worth knowing

  • No maker-hosted copy of this manual is online any more; AEM's own printed manual is the source.
  • 104-position connector with 95 populated.
  • Comms are RS232 only; no CAN.

Which builds it suits

Of the 58 swap presets in the planner, 0 fit as they are and 0 fit with add-ons; 58 do not fit at all. Where it falls short, it is usually not enough ignition outputs. The planner fills anything a preset leaves open with its ordinary defaults, so your own build may land differently.

It can't run the GM LT1 (Gen5 6.2 alum): not enough ignition outputs. It can't run the Nissan VR38DETT (R35 GT-R): not enough ignition outputs. It can't run the BMW N54 (3.0 twin-turbo I6): not enough ignition outputs.
