Link G4+ Xtreme pinout and specs

Link G4+ Xtreme is a 69-pin wire-in Link ECU on 3 connectors: A (34 pins), B (33 pins) and CAN (2 pins).

It has 8 injector outputs and 8 ignition outputs. The injector drivers are peak-and-hold, so low-impedance injectors run without a resistor pack. The ignition outputs are logic-level. Smart coils plug straight in; dumb coils need an igniter in between.

There are 2 dedicated trigger inputs, each happy with a VR or a Hall sensor. Two knock inputs cover both banks of a V engine. Wideband control needs an external controller, usually over CAN.

It has H-bridge outputs labelled for an electronic throttle, so drive-by-wire runs from the ECU itself. Two CAN buses handle dashes, PDMs and expansion. Four outputs can switch 12V as well as ground.

Worth knowing

  • CAN 2 on B27/B28 needs PCB version 1.4 or later.
  • Onboard MAP: Link does not list one for this model, so the page says 'not listed' rather than 'no'.

Which builds it suits

Of the 58 swap presets in the planner, 0 fit as they are and 55 fit with add-ons; 3 do not fit at all. The add-on it asks for most often is the Link CAN-Lambda. Where it falls short, it is usually not enough drive-by-wire throttle motor (h-bridge). The planner fills anything a preset leaves open with its ordinary defaults, so your own build may land differently.

The Ford Modular 5.4 4V GT500 (S/C, DBW) needs Link CAN-Lambda and an external igniter. The BMW N54 (3.0 twin-turbo I6) needs a direct-injection driver module and Link CAN-Lambda. It can't run the Mazda Rotary 13B-MSP Renesis (RX-8 manual, 6-injector): not enough drive-by-wire throttle motor (h-bridge). It can't run the Mazda Rotary 13B-MSP Renesis (RX-8 auto, 4-injector): not enough drive-by-wire throttle motor (h-bridge). It can't run the BMW S54 (3.2 NA I6, E46 M3): not enough knock inputs.

Other Link ECUs

The closest Link unit is the Link G4X XtremeX. Against it, this one has peak-and-hold injector drive (the G4X XtremeX is saturated) and no drive-by-wire (the G4X XtremeX has 1).
