FuelTech FT450 pinout and specs

FuelTech FT450 is a 26-pin wire-in FuelTech ECU on 1 connector: A (26 pins).

It has 6 injector outputs and 4 ignition outputs. The injector drivers are saturated, which means high-impedance injectors. Low-impedance ones need a ballast resistor pack or a different ECU. The ignition outputs are logic-level. Smart coils plug straight in; dumb coils need an igniter in between.

There are 2 dedicated trigger inputs, each happy with a VR or a Hall sensor. There is no knock input on the ECU itself; knock control needs a separate knock box. Wideband control needs an external controller, usually over CAN. The MAP sensor is built in.

It does not drive an electronic throttle, so plan on a cable throttle. One CAN bus handles dashes, PDMs and expansion. The maker rates the 5V sensor supply at 150 mA in total.

Worth knowing

  • No native knock input; knock needs an external knock box.
  • FuelTech's spec row lists 5 ignition outputs by also counting Blue output 6; the output table says 4.

Which builds it suits

Of the 58 swap presets in the planner, 0 fit as they are and 11 fit with add-ons; 47 do not fit at all. The add-on it asks for most often is a dash with spare I/O. Where it falls short, it is usually not enough injector output (low-side). The planner fills anything a preset leaves open with its ordinary defaults, so your own build may land differently.

The Toyota 1JZ-GTE VVTi needs a dash with spare I/O and a CAN wideband module. The Subaru EJ/FA EJ20 turbo single-AVCS (EJ207 v7-9) needs a dash with spare I/O and a CAN wideband module. It can't run the Ford Coyote 5.0 Gen1 (2011-14): not enough injector output (low-side). It can't run the Nissan RB26DETT (R32/R33, dumb coils): not enough ignition outputs. It can't run the BMW N54 (3.0 twin-turbo I6): not enough ignition outputs.
